Electromagnetic Interactions Group/Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer

AMS on the International Space Station

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer experiment is the first large magnetic spectrometer ever placed in the Earth's orbit. In June 1998 the detector was flown on Discovery where it was in orbit around the Earth for 10 days. It is planned for the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to be on the International Space Station for up to three years. The physics goal is to increase our knowledge and scientific understanding of the origins of the universe. This experiment may lead us to many new discoveries and help us form a better understanding of the composition and creation of the universe.
